Welcome to KAIAHO

- an eco-lodge in Kenepuru Sound

(Click thumbnail photos to view larger images)

Our small, friendly lodge is located in an idyllic, usually tranquil setting in the middle of Kenepuru Sound, not far from Portage. It is on a 5 hectare (12 acre) QE II covenanted property (dedicated to native forest and wildlife habitat regeneration).

Stunning views in all directions a feature. Gorgeous sunsets.

Private & secluded, - just far enough off the beaten track, - yet not too far away.  Walk, paddle or sail in, or pay for a 5-minute water taxi.

Here is your chance to get away from the hustle & bustle of modern life and of the popular attractions. To be woken by the dawn chorus of tui and korimako (bellbird) calls. To enjoy an out-of-the-ordinary kiwi experience.

We offer several styles of accommodation, with “hostel, “homestay and “B&B formats all possible. Free breakfast and all-day hot drinks. Free internet.

Small group bookings are welcomed, such as

-                     school outdoor/nature education trips

-                     incentive breaks, executive meetings, corporate & team-building retreats

-                     institutional & religious retreats

-                     artistic & musical workshops

Our emphasis is on self-sufficient, sustainable, environmentally-friendly & minimally-polluting living for the future, with

-                     solar electrical and hot-water systems

-                     composting toilets

-                     roof-collected rain as water supply

Experience ‘life in the Sounds’ on a boat access property where nature rules.  “Weather permitting” is the constant conditional. Flexibility in planning is a necessity. Bookings essential.

Francophones toujours les bienvenues – surtout les Québecois(es) (parce que, “je me souviens”, leur “pays, ce n’est pas un pays, c’est l’hiver”).

But don't look for our brochures in i-SITEs or our listings on paid websites. Our philosophy is to rely on free advertising options and word of mouth. We can afford to.
