Wildlife viewing
- guaranteed: korimako (bellbird), tui, various shags (cormorants), various gulls & terns, glow-worms (at night)
- usually: weka, piwakawaka (fantail), shearwater, gannet, Californian quail
- often: keruru (wood pigeon), silvereye, possum (at night, unless dead)
- occasionally: fur seal, little blue penguin, dolphin


 


Bush & Beach walks
- beachcomb for shells, driftwood or your own fresh seafood (mussels, pipi, rock oysters)
- explore our several blazed walking trails through the bush, and learn more from intermittent interpretive labeling
- be more ambitious and link up with the Queen Charlotte Track (about 3.5 km walk)


Fishing
- “Kaiaho”, the Maori name of our Point, means “food on a line” – go figure!
- From shore or boat

- - Canadian canoe, sit-on kayak & row boat available for guest use

Visit Local Attractions
- Within 1 km: mussel farms, shag breeding colony, 2 scenic reserves, Portage shop, Portage bar & restaurant, connection to Queen Charlotte Track (hiking & mountain biking), fishing charters, kayak/canoe/sailboat rental
- Within 4 km: more scenic reserves, ship wreck, other restaurants (St. Omer, Te Mahia & Raetihi), Nopera 9-hole golf course, “The Nikaus” Gardens at Waitaria Bay.
